Grocery Workers in Seattle Show Thanks This Labor Day

puget soundGrocery workers will fly a huge banner thanking Puget Sound area community members and supporters who helped them gain a fair contract with employers.

The UFCW members want to thank those who helped them to secure a fair three-year contract agreement with four Puget Sound stores: Safeway, Albertsons and Fred Meyer and QFC.

Over the past five months, during contract negotiations between United Food and Commercial Workers Union and the three chains, grocery workers received an outpouring of support from UFCW members, store customers and community members throughout Puget Sound and nationwide. Tens of thousands of people region wide signed a pledge saying they would stand up for grocery workers. The region’s religious leaders and elected officials showed up at stores to bolster support for workers. That support was instrumental in winning a fair contract for over 20,000 workers in Puget Sound.
