Oregon: UFCW PUSH FOR OBAMA
UFCW Local 555

PORTLAND, Ore. - Retail jobs will be the fastest growing jobs in the U.S. over the next decade, according to the Department of Labor. And Oregon retail workers believe Barack Obama is the candidate who will turn the economy around, solve the American health care crisis, and restore the American Dream for America’s workers.

“I’m a cashier mom, and I’m working to elect Barack Obama because he believes if you work in America you ought to have the wages and health care to raise a family in America,” said Cheralyn Patterson, a UFCW member and cashier at Safeway.

Members of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW), the largest union of retail workers in the country with 1.3 million members, are joining Congressman Earl Blumenauer, today, in final canvassing and get-out-the vote efforts on behalf of Barack Obama. "Barack Obama is the best candidate to restore economic balance in this country and give labor a fair shake."

UFCW Local 555 President Gene Ponovost said, “Retail is where U.S. jobs are going to grow, and Senator Obama is the candidate of retail workers. He’ll put our country back on the right track-on a track where everybody counts and hard work is rewarded.”
