Tentative agreement reached between
union and Canada Safeway workers in B.C.
VANCOUVER — Canada Safeway workers will vote on a tentative
contract reached late Tuesday night between the United Food and
Commercial Workers Union and the grocery retailer.
UFCW communications director Andy Neufeld says details of the
agreement won't be immediately released.
He says the pact was reached after several tense hours of
negotiation.
According to Neufeld, it "pretty much" reflects an agreement
ratified by unionized workers at the Overwaitea group of grocery
retailers in July.
Safeway workers across the Lower Mainland, from Squamish to
Chilliwack, will vote Sunday and Monday on the offer.
Neufeld says if they approve, the terms will apply to all B.C.
employees in the chain.
